ARE YOU BENDY?
Bending your back into the shape of a springy bridge isn’t something that comes easily for moi. But being ubar flexible and mediating your mind seems to be a very popular activity here in Sydney.
So much so that I’ve attended a few yoga classes and discovered that while the room packs uncontrollable heat and bendy show offs (I loath you people), the idea of yoga is really rather great. Relaxing at times, painful at others. Most of all, it has highlighted how totally unbalanced my core is and how I find it almost impossible to stay still for more than 30 seconds. Cringe worthy, I know.
ARE YOU “HELL-BENT” ON YOGA?
The outbreak in yoga has led me to a new read, HELL-BENT by Benjamin Lorr. A guy whose squidgy figure and circumstance led him to gain fitness via Bikram yoga. He works himself up to a competitive level over a series of years and throughout the process questions every aspect of the practice: the extreme conditions as well as the rewards. He looks at every angle and debate possible for this style of yoga.
I’m only mid-way through and excited to find out whether Lorr makes it to a competitive level. And whether at the end of all this debate, does this extreme fitness pay off?
